Charlotte Tilbury has slowly been over taking my makeup selection and you know what? I love it. For those that do not know Charlotte started out as a young makeup artist for many years and over the years started networking with celebrity makeup artist, photographers and more. She was known for creating signature glamours looks for Victoria Secret models. Honestly, her brand is all glam, glowy and beautiful. When the rumors came out that she came out with a new Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation I was ecstatic. Be cautious of Sephora reviews, 1. The are all from Influenster and no one received a shade that actually matched them and 2. They didn’t use the correct products under it, using an oil would ruin it.
Ingredient wise this is what makes the formula unique:
- REPLEXIUM®: Helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. (Patented peptides that recently got approved for the USA)
- MossCellTec™ No. 1: Helps thoroughly hydrate skin. (Anti aging cell nucleus from moss)
- AirCool™: Provides an immediate fresh feel on skin (Releases menthol after application)
Let’s get down to how I liked it!
So the application was a lot different than my other bases that I’ve tried! I got mine at Nordstrom and the lady was sent out of state for training on this foundation and how to best apply it. This foundation was designed specially to be used with the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream, so I got a sample of it. Note: none of their primers are recommended to be used with this! So you can apply this two ways, with a dense brush or with a stippling brush. I used my Temptu brush and it was really nice. I applied it all and let it dry while I did some of my hair. My preferred application method for base products is a sponge but I didn’t like it with this1
Coverage + Finish
This a matte full coverage foundation! I am not a full coverage type of gal but this is perfect when I have tons of redness, and you can get lighter coverage if you use a stippling brush. Also you only need half a pump to cover your whole face! I don’t actually find this foundation to be THAT matte. I find it more of a demi matte/satin finish. For reference I have pretty dry skin and was worried that it would make me look like a cake face. It did cling two of my acne spots but if you don’t have a lot of texture then this would be great. But it’s not my favorite right now because I do have some texture!
I applied this at 6:30 and checked in on it in a few times throughout the day. At 10am it was still doing great, no oiliness or dryness. I checked in again around noon and at 4 and it still was doing great. I went to a friends house and checked in on it around 7 and it was doing about the same but with my t zone a little oily. When I got home at 10 I was a little oily but no makeup separated around the nose area like most foundations do for me. There was no separation at all on my skin. If I had used an oil underneath it, it would have separated because the CT Nordstrom lady said it’d do that if you use oil underneath it. I did find that by the end of the day that it did cling to dry patches pretty badly. But again it’s a matte foundation so what can you expect.
This foundation uses Replexium in it. “Replexium® is a skin-bioavailable synergistic complex of two patented peptides perfectly suitable for the development of performance skin care products. Replexium® …reducing the appearance of wrinkles.” Due to this ingredient apparently when you apply it to the skin it takes 5 minutes to see it’s true color on your skin. So getting it color matched in Sephora is hard without waiting 5 minutes for it to dry. So be patient! I think it’s annoying but this is suppose to be a good skincare ingredient. I am typically neautral toned but it pulled too warm on me. So I went with 1C! This was actually perfect for me.
Although the application is finicky I do like it for the days I do want full coverage. I think that it can be sheered down. I kind of like the finish of this and it pairs so well with the Flawless Filter highlighter. It would be awesome if she came out with a more dewy version of this though because this would be hard to use if you have textured/dry skin.
